Working with communities to find out stories of Nuneaton today
What is the Theatre project?
Our theatre and performance project aims to reach across the whole community to produce three performance projects.
Our first project is a Verbatim theatre piece and will be performed in collaboration with Sudden Impulse Production Company. We will develop the piece by working with identified communities throughout Nuneaton. These could be communities based on geographic areas of the town or communities bound by common interests, circumstances or culture. We will be providing workshop experiences for community groups and having chat sessions to hear about your stories, memories, and thoughts on the future, and from these stories we will create a bespoke piece of theatre using only your words. Don’t worry all stories will be anonymous! For this project we will be working with adults 18 and over.
Our second piece is a physical theatre production in collaboration with Dauntless Evolution theatre company. Again, they will be creating a piece of work based on people’s personal responses to the town, however Dauntless will be concentrating on the thoughts of the younger generation working in schools and colleges to provide unique workshops and engage with young people.
The third piece will be a collaboration with local colleges to produce a video piece giving specific thoughts using the voice of the people.

How can I get involved in the Theatre project?
You can be part of the story – just pop in to Grit Art Central in Coventry Street, Nuneaton and pick up a series of questionnaires, you can answer just one or all the ones that are relevant to you. Tell us your stories and adventures and what it is like for you here in Nuneaton – just pop the completed question sheet into the ‘Grit Bin’ inside the shop and you could become part of the story.
All performances will premiere in a unique outdoor street arts festival int the Town Centre in August 2024
